A Celebration Of Women In Fiction

This idea has come about through quite a bit of musing, some of which is inspired by the Voices And Vaginas Challenge
and some inspired by a discussion about slash, het, femmeslash and depiction of women on [livejournal.com profile] minerva_fan's journal.

My LJ and my flist are almost entirely made up of Harry Potter fans, fanfiction writers and readers. When I consider all the books I have ever read, there are many that I have enjoyed as much as HP, if not more. Why, then, do I only write HP fanfiction?

Because there is an audience for it.

The idea, then, is to let us writers indulge ourselves in those fandoms we would not normally get to write about because there is no one to read them. We do this by combining them with Harry Potter character. Use the fandom to our own devious ends ;) Hopefully, then, we can introduce our fandoms to Harry Potter fans, and hopefully we might discover whole new worlds we've never heard of before.

The challenge, then, is to make the story woman-centric, whether it be by femmeslash, friendship, or the effect that female characters have on male characters. A celebration of women in fiction, not just Harry Potter.

The stories must contain a Harry Potter character, and at least one female character from at least one other fandom. Since many people may not have read the alternate fandom, spoilers should be kept to a minimum, in case the person reading decides they want to go out and find the book/film/tv show that the character is from.

The fandom should not be a huge one. It's up to you, but the idea is to introduce new fandoms, not combine two fandoms that are as huge as HP already. I leave it up to you to decide what is a small fandom.

My minor fandoms/female characters are:

Tad William's 'Otherland' -- Martine Desroubins
Ian Irvine's three worlds universe, specifically the 'View From The Mirror' quartet -- Faelamor, Magraith, Malien
Sarah Zettel's 'Isavalta' -- Empress Medeoan

Things I would ADORE to see, but have no bunnies for:

Lucius and/or Narcissa Malfoy/Marisa Coulter, 'His Dark Materials'

"Petunia, I could sail you to Nantucket by the light of the moon"
(appologies if I spelt it wrong, I've only ever heard it spoken)

I'd love to know who'd be into this.
