Can anybody think of an article or journal post that talks about why using the term 'Orientals' when you mean 'Asian people' is problematic and offensive? Preferably in a way that isn't too heavy on the academic language? There was some serious racefail at the dinner table at my Dad's tonight, and I would really like to send him something that explains why that term is offensive in a way that is more productive and informative than me getting up and removing myself from the table because I was mad (I was mad because I said 'they're Asians, not Orientals; calling them that is kind of offensive' and his first response was 'no it isn't hurrr should I could them 'slant-eyes' then?'). I don't know if he'll care, but maybe he'll click a link if I send him one and learn something that might make him think in future.
