Very interesting characterization and plot! Rita is scary, but then so is Karkaroff's naive (or lust-driven?) mis-assessment of her. And his political naiveties. But then, I suppose history has shown that people with such political naivety combined with a powerful drive can be shockingly successful... I'm not actually clear about Rita's motivation for betraying Karkaroff. (I'm sure this has more to with my own naiveties than with your fic - I would have thought you'd need a damned compelling reason to betray someone like that, but with Rita it seems almost an afterthought...)
