Quick Greetings
Jun. 29th, 2006 12:10 pmHey all, just checking in!
This tour is a whirlwind. It started on Monday and ends on Friday and I've already been many places. First day was Nottingham and Sherwood forest, then the night in York. Walking tour, dinner and a ghost tour. Day two was Durham Cathedral and Hadrians wall, then up to Scotland. I poked around Edinburgh castle in our free two hours (amazing!) and bought a bright purple t-shirt with a picture of a mouse and the words 'a wee moose!' on it, then another walking tour (oh, Scotsman with long curly hair and a kilt, keep smiling and talking! *ded*). Dinner and whiskey tasting. Yesterday, we saw 'heilan coos' and something Green (place where people ran away from England to get married, beacause they could do it there without parental consent) :). Then we stopped in the Lake District and saw a waterfall and climbed a big hill for a beautiful view. The Lake District is BEAUTIFUL. Karen, I envy you so! Then it was on to Liverpool, driving tour. Football stadiums (Angela yawns), then the Cavern hotel and the Liverpool wall of fame, Penny Lane and John Lennon's house. Saw a lot of the city from the bus. Not as beautiful as most others, but it certainly has character! I was really interested to see it, since I spent three years of my life (in high school) writing crime novels set here, and yet I'd never seen the place. Dinner and an early night (this travel stuff tires one out!).
We're going to Wales tonight, then on to Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford tomorrow, then back to London in the evening for the end of the tour. We have a few hours free here because our tour leader/driver apparently has food poisoning (poor guy!) and they're sending a new driver up from London.
Anyway, we're leaving at one, and it's nearly 12:30 so I should probably get on moving and head back to the hostel.
I'll chat to you all soon! I should be installing myself once again in Leicester Square Starbucks when I'm back in London, and the place in Copenhagen apparently has free wireless in the lobby, so I shouldn't be internetless too much after tomorrow.
I can't believe I go home in 12 days! This time has gone so quickly. I'm excited to see everyone, but sad about leaving at the same time. Gah, mixed feelings are so unwelcome!
