Should 'Aurors' always be spelled with a capital letter? I keep doing it in the fic I'm writing, but it looks wrong. Do you guys think it should be more like detective, or doctor - only capitalised when it's used as a title?

I think only as a title. Like with professors.

hmmmm. only capitalized when used as a title, i think, when referring to a specific auror. (but not when we're talking about someone we don't know). and then, when referring to them in general, lowercaser. "aurors".

depends on how you are using the word. Are you talking about a specific group of aurors or if your talking on general. If its specific then capitalize it buy otherwise you can use small letters.

When I'm using it like:

Auror Orion Proudfoot stepped into the room. (I capitalize.)

When I'm using it like:

The random redshirt auror surveyed the area. (I don't.)

Yes, it should only be capitalised when it's used as a title.

In both the UK and US editions, Auror is always capitalised.

It is always capitalized in the U.S. versions of the books.

Example from GOF, Chapter 25:
"You ever thought of a career as an Auror, Potter?"

To the best of my memory it's always capitalised in the books, but then it would make more sense, to me, to only capitalise it when using it as a title. (Maybe it's always capitalised for fear of confusing the profession with the more Trewlawny-ish 'you have a glow about you' aura, as a editorial decision...?)
