Sweet Decay: Mortality

A shattered window
Held together with tape
A beating heart
Sunlight on her soul
The fire in the mind
A blaze so hot as to shatter
The glass
Of the lamp that contains it
And leave it open
Open and exposed
To the weather.
Warmth in the veins
The gentle ripple of water
A lake of emotion
Floating in it, drowning in it
Closing overhead
Silence
Silence and the sun on her face.
Peace
Peace and yet pain
Pain and yet hope
Hope and yet fear
Fear and yet love
Love
Fragile indifference shattered
The same strong soul
The same blooming rose
Now bound by the earth around it.
